Meta PlatformsBullish
Meta is a name to watch on capex scrutiny; sentiment should turn as its capex history suggests.
Eisen says Meta has a long history of facing capex scrutiny, then either pivoting or going all in and showing growth in other areas such as ads or its huge installed base. So she thinks it is a matter of time before sentiment changes, though she can't say when. She is monitoring it, though she wouldn't rush in yet.
“I think that is a place you might wanna look. Again, I wouldn't rush into that, but I think there's a situation where we have a long standing history of them being faced with scrutiny around CapEx spending”at 11:17

Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETFBullish
Equal-weight S&P (RSP) is a place to hide out domestically, and the firm has added it.
Eisen says RSP has underperformed for quite some time but allows investors to stay domestic without chasing EM or international performance. It also lets investors avoid the concentration in capitalization-weighted indices that is driven by the big tech names. The firm has added RSP to its portfolio for these reasons.
“I also think that RSP is another place where you've been able to hide out. We've added that to the portfolio.”at 11:57

Wants firmer Fed language; can't pledge price stability while staying noncommittal on hikes.
Eisen would like firmer language from the Fed that gives a firm path and direction. She accepts that a deviation from market expectations could bring volatility. But she says the Fed can't say it will restore price stability while being noncommittal about rate hikes, and she wants that reconciled.
“For one, you can't come out and say we will restore price stability while being a bit noncommittal about rate hikes.”at 19:55

American Express CompanyUncertain
American Express's 9% revenue growth roughly matches expense growth, with perks spend under scrutiny.
Eisen says the quarter's numbers are strong but depend on what you look at. Revenue grew about 9% and expenses grew about 9%. Perks, benefits and marketing spend used to attract additional revenue are what is being called under scrutiny. She notes Visa and Mastercard are processors that don't take on the same creditor underwriting risk as Amex.
“What I really focused on was a 9% revenue growth versus a roughly 9% expense growth. And as you mentioned, all of the perks and benefits”at 24:03

Capital One FinancialUncertain
Capital One's delinquencies ticked up, a stress signal to monitor in the K-shaped recovery.
Eisen says Capital One has sequentially lower charge-offs and some loan loss reserve provisions being released. The thing that stands out is a slight tick up in delinquency. There are no defaults yet, but she sees more stress on the balance sheet in that cohort in the context of a K-shaped recovery. That is something to monitor.
“So we haven't seen defaults, but we did see a slight tick up in delinquency. You're pretty much just seeing a bit more stress on the balance sheet in that cohort.”at 24:55

SLBBullish
SLB is more attractive as a relative-value spread trade against XLE than as an outright long.
Eisen agrees with Worth's call on oil services. She prefers SLB as a relative-value position rather than an outright play, using a spread against XLE that can be added to or taken off. She says shorting XLE takes some bravery, but she finds the spread more compelling.
“I'm with Carter. I think I like it on a relative value basis rather than an outright play a little bit more.”at 37:25

Meta PlatformsBullish
Meta is a poor bear-case example because its AI compute doubles up in advertising and recommendations.
Eisen argues that Meta is the wrong example for the bear case on AI spending returns. For every unit of compute Meta buys, there is a second use in advertising and recommendation systems, so its AI spend is less exposed to the enterprise ROI problem than other companies' spending.
“I'm really wondering if it's just the wrong poster child for the bear case because there's an argument to be made that for every unit of computer, it has a second use inside advertising and recommendation.”at 42:46

CoreWeaveBearish
Rising cost of capital erodes CoreWeave's revenue growth, so the credit market must be fixed first.
Bonawyn says this is not a complete market panic. The real issue is the cost of capex. CoreWeave's revenue grew about 110% sequentially last quarter, but rising cost of capital is eating each incremental revenue dollar. Even 110% or 130% growth will not be enough until the credit markets are brought under control, so he would stay away from the neocloud cohort for now.
“each incremental dollar in revenue growth is now being eaten and eroded away by increased cost of capital. So until that latter is resolved, I don't think that the growth, whether it'd be a 110% or even a 130%, is going to be enough”at 7:03

Growth scares are warranted because tech's EPS-growth concentration is now under challenge.
Bonawyn sees the concentration of EPS growth in the tech cohort as the key risk, and that concentration is now coming under challenge. He thinks the ten-year yield move is not purely a growth scare, and some of it is a flight to quality. He still sees the growth concern as justified.
“I think some of the growth scares are warranted. When you look at the concentration of EPS growth within the tech cohort and then you see that that is now coming under challenge, I think that is raised for concern.”at 7:03

The short end of the Treasury curve is a safe haven while tech volatility persists.
Bonawyn says he would look at the short end of the curve for tactical positioning during volatility. He sees several reasons it could be a safe haven, and also cites certain parts of health care. He describes the ten-year move as partly a flight to quality rather than a pure growth scare.
“I would look at the short end of the curve. I think that there is, you know, a lot of reasons why that might be a safe haven to hide out on.”at 18:51

OracleBearish
Levered AI-infrastructure names like Oracle are a poor buy into the current selloff.
After a 25 to 30% drop in a week, Bonawyn says a bounce is likely but he would be hesitant to catch the falling knife. He would avoid the neocloud and any levered company such as Oracle at this point. He is willing to give up a 5 to 7% bounce to avoid the risk of holding a levered name while credit conditions are tightening.
“I would be hesitant to jump into the neocloud or into any levered company, Oracle, for example, right at this moment in time.”at 19:18

AppleUncertain
Apple's cash flow and buybacks give it a margin of safety, but valuation is the overhang.
Bonawyn cites Apple's balance-sheet flexibility, robust free cash flow and buybacks as levers it can pull. He sees positive catalysts from a new higher-priced SKU, services and China stabilising, and possible share gains against Huawei. Valuation is still the overhang, and given the market backdrop he expects the current premium cannot hold in the short term.
“They also have robust free cash flow, and as you said, buybacks, and so that gives them levers that they can pull.”at 26:52

NikeNeutral
Nike's bounce is tactical from oversold conditions; not a new uptrend, and most downside is likely priced in.
Eison is hesitant to call the bounce the start of an uptrend. He sees it as tactical and technical, with people buying value after oversold conditions. Known pain points in China and Nike Direct are well documented, so it wouldn't be his first place to add capital. He still thinks most of the downside is baked in, which he hopes is true.
“I'm hesitant to call it the beginnings of an uptrend.”at 45:42
