Guy Adami · CNBCBullish
TLT could rise toward 84.5 near term, though a renewed rise in rates would hurt.
Adami sees the most interesting element of the Fed meeting as the implication that rate hikes may be over. He says the 10-year yield, around 4.80%, could then stop and perhaps reverse higher. He thinks TLT could climb a little toward 84.5 over the next week or so, but warns that if rates start to reaccelerate higher it could be problematic.
“I thought the TLT could get a little higher, 84.5, which sort of coincided to four eighty ish in the '10. But now let's see what happens over the next week or so. Because if rates start to reaccelerate higher, that could be problematic.”at 40:06

Long-dated Treasury ETF TLT is a buy; a countertrend bond rally could return 10-30% with coupons.
Larry says a countertrend rally in TLT and bond prices between now and next year could return 10-30% including coupons. His firm is starting to buy TLT again, treating the move as a rally within a bond bear market driven by Treasury cash management.
“Look at the TLT. That's something we're starting to look at and buy again. ... if you get a countertrend rally in the TLT and in bond prices between now and, say, the time next year, you could potentially make with the coupons 10, 20, 30%.”at 38:50

Bond rally is a countertrend bounce; TLT may reach 84.5 as yields rise again later this year.
The recent drop in yields is a countertrend bounce in the bond market, and bond prices are expected to keep deteriorating. TLT may fall toward 84.5, which is about 4.85% on the 10-year yield. The trajectory of yields is expected to keep moving higher at some point later this year.
“this is a countertrend bounce in the bond market, lowering yields against the market that I think is going to continue to deteriorate.”at 38:04

Lance Roberts · RIA AdvisorsNeutral
After a strong TLT rally there is little left to gain near term; take profits and rebalance to target.
Lance's firm added 20-year Treasury exposure (TLT) to its 60/40 model about three weeks earlier. The trade has rallied strongly and the fund is back in overbought territory after clearing key moving averages. He sees little more upside from here, so the plan is to take some profit and trim the position back to target allocation size. The longer-term view that rates will fall is not enough to add now.
“But I think near term, if you've been on this side of the trade, it's time to probably get ready to take some profits, rebalance your risk a bit”at 55:10

Dan Nathan · RiskReversal MediaBullish
TLT has more upside after its bounce, possibly toward $48.05.
TLT has bounced nicely off its lows. Dan expects the ten-year yield to keep moving, with TLT possibly reaching around $48.05, and sees more room to the upside for the long-duration bond ETF.
“TLT's had a nice bounce off the lows. I think you see the ten year, check back to maybe $48.05. I think there's more room to go to the upside for TLT.”at 46:51

Ben Carlson · Ritholtz Wealth ManagementBearish
Long-duration Treasuries are a poor bet; short-duration bills were the better hedge.
Ben calls this decade the worst bond bear market ever. TLT is still down about 40-45% including reinvested income, yet its assets have grown from about $17-18 billion in 2022 to nearly $50 billion. He says a simple hedge was available: move to short duration, T-bills, or 1-3 year Treasuries, which avoided the rate volatility. Ben is skeptical about buying long bonds now. He notes the 30-year yield of about 5.7% is the highest in 20 years but calls it not a generational buying opportunity.
“This decade has been by far the worst bond bear market that there is... there was a really simple and easy hedge for it. You go short duration. You go to T bills.”at 16:33
Michael Batnick · Ritholtz Wealth ManagementBullish
Bought long-duration Treasury ETF as a directional swing, though he expects to be run over.
Batnick says he bought the long-duration Treasury ETF TLT shortly before recording. He describes it as a directional bet on long duration in a market where the trend is clearly higher in yields. He expects to be run over, and says this is not a call that rates have topped. His rationale is thin and mostly a small swing trade rather than a conviction thesis.
“I did take a swing this morning on long, which I will probably get run over on. ... I did buy TLT thirty minutes before this podcast.”at 17:00
