The market rewards Lilly for pipeline investment while punishing other big pharma that spends without payoff.

He says investors are rewarding Lilly for investing in its pipeline, and he is not questioning where Lilly is spending its money. Other big pharma gets punished for similar spending. He points to Pfizer, which also spent heavily on seemingly unproven pipeline bets. The implication is that the market separates spending that is paying off from spending that is not.

“And they're being rewarded for investing in the pipeline. We're not questioning where they're spending their money. There's certainly other big pharma out there that we punish them.”at 43:12

Lilly benefits from Medicare GLP-1 access in Q3 and broader oral and consumer GLP-1 availability next year.

Medicare patients began getting access to GLP-1s on July 1, which should be a nice tailwind for Lilly's third quarter. Looking to next year, broad global availability of both the oral and broader consumer spending on GLP-1s will also be a tailwind. Lilly does not need to win the oral race to be the winner, since its pipeline and retatrutide, a next-gen GLP-1 with robust efficacy and a possible late-2027 launch, add further upside.

“July 1 is when Medicare patients started to get access to GLP-1s. So that's obviously going to be a nice tailwind for 3Q.”at 38:47

Eli Lilly will beat its ambitious estimates in upcoming earnings; GLP-1s transformative

Scott calls Eli Lilly the AI trade of your waistline and says it is the most interesting company to come out of Indiana. He predicts its upcoming earnings will show results that blow away its already ambitious estimates. He reaffirms his view that GLP-1 drugs will be more transformative than AI, and says the earnings report will show it.

“I think it's kind of the AI trade of your waistline. I think it's... gonna even blow away its incredibly ambitious estimates.”at 1:14:39

Eli Lilly is a likely AI-drug-discovery beneficiary: strong acquisition record and a proprietary AI design model.

As AI commoditizes phase one assets, large acquirers that bring molecules to FDA approval should benefit. Eli Lilly has a strong track record of acquiring molecules and taking them through approval. It is also an AI pioneer with TuneLab, an AI drug-design model trained on decades of its proprietary data. Anyone can use it, but users must contribute designs to improve it, so Lilly collects data that keeps the model improving. Citrini expects significant dispersion across pharma as AI improves, with less defensible companies that rely on a single asset in one mechanism losing out.

“But companies like Eli Lilly has a great track record of executing on acquiring these kind of companies, acquiring molecules, and bringing them through to FDA approval.”at 55:33

She is bullish on the GLP-1 space, with Lilly her biggest position after its appreciation.

She says she likes the GLP-1 space and is long it, with Lilly her biggest position by virtue of its appreciation. She also notes Lilly is not part of the cheap value trade, while Novo is, and that Novo's data announcement was not unexpected. Her case for Lilly rests mainly on her existing position and her positive view of the space, not on new fundamentals.

“I like the space. I'm longing the space. Lilly, just by its appreciation, my biggest position”at 22:46

Eli Lilly has dominated the GLP-1 race and is diversifying; he keeps owning it.

Lilly is the clear winner in GLP-1 and is diversifying the model with about $20 billion of acquisitions in 2026. Its market cap is about $1.2 trillion, up from around $750 billion two years ago, while Novo Nordisk, which was near $600 billion in June 2024, is now under $200 billion. He says the competition has been annihilated and that Lilly keeps setting all-time highs despite people who said it could not keep appreciating at this rate. He continues to hold the stock.

“Lilly has absolutely annihilated the competition... They are in the clear position as the winner for GLP one and the diversifying. I continue to maintain ownership.”at 22:30

Eli Lilly and GLP-1 drugs are a better long-term bet than fitness stocks, as Americans stay sedentary.

Arguing that fitness-gadget and gym stocks are poor bets, he says the better long-term bets are Americans staying sedentary, and cites McDonald's, Altria and Netflix. Matt, responding to chat comments, says Lilly and GLP-1 are the better bet and fully agrees. It is an endorsement made in passing rather than a developed thesis.

“they're saying in the chat, Lilly is the better bet. GLP one is the bet. Yep. Yeah. I get behind that. 100%.”at 56:19
