  • Sarat Sethi · Douglas C. Lane & AssociatesBearish

Selling UnitedHealth after a 20%-plus gain because its remaining upside is limited.

UnitedHealth is up over 20% for the year, and Sarat says the fund did very well with it. He thinks the upside from here is more limited, so he is selling and moving within healthcare into Medline instead.

“we're selling UnitedHealth, which is up over 20% for the year... I think, you know, the upside there is more limited.”at 48:07

  • Mark Cuban · Cost Plus DrugsBearish

UnitedHealth's vertical integration lets it raise premiums and steer members to its own owned units.

UnitedHealth has more than 3,000 subsidiaries and roughly $150 billion in intercompany transfers a year, which Cuban says would make it the 14th-largest economy among US states. Because of that scale, the insurer can raise premiums, deductibles and out-of-pocket costs while redirecting members into relationships with companies it already owns, often without the employer knowing. Cuban says CVS and Cigna are not far behind. He backs the Break Up Big Medicine bill to break up these companies and open the market to entrepreneurs.

“So UnitedHealth, 3,000 plus subsidiaries, [$]150,000,000,000 in intercompany transfers annually. ... they will increase premiums, increase deductibles, increase out of pocket costs, and at the same time redirect you or actually force you into a relationship with a company they already own”at 11:25

UnitedHealth is improving after earnings; the firm added to its position again.

The firm has added to UnitedHealth three times in the past month after emptying it last year. Last week's earnings validated re-entry: earnings rose, Medicare ratios improved, and the full-year guide was raised. Problems are not all in the rearview mirror, but he only needs improvement. The firm owned the stock for more than ten years and hopes that will repeat, and says it is trending in the right direction.

“We added to UnitedHealthcare again... Their earnings were up. The Medicare ratios were up. Their guide for full year was up.”at 20:36

  • Steve Weiss · Short Hills Capital PartnersBullish

UnitedHealthcare has moved up on strong quarterly execution and should keep rising.

UnitedHealthcare has already moved higher because it executed well in the quarter. Weiss thinks the stock will keep moving up, extending the momentum from that quarter's execution.

“UnitedHealthcare that's moved up since they execute well in the quarter, I think continues to move higher.”at 47:16

  • Stephanie Link · Hightower AdvisorsBullish

UnitedHealth is a buy: a 16% earnings beat, about 21% revenue growth, and CEO share purchases.

She bought UnitedHealth after a strong quarter that beat earnings by 16%, with revenue expected to grow 20-21% this year. The returning CEO bought $25M of stock in May of last year, and the stock has risen 37% since. It is still well below its highs, and she thinks he is the right person to fix the company's problems.

“They had a really good quarter, beat earnings by 16%. They're gonna see revenues up 20%... 21% this year. The CEO has returned to the company from a year ago, bought $25,000,000 of stock back in May of last year.”at 12:35

UnitedHealth is ready to return to its beat-and-raise pattern on its upcoming results.

Cramer says UnitedHealth is ready to go back to its old beat-and-raise greatness, and that results come out Tuesday. He gives little evidence beyond the expectation, and jokes that the headlines are written before the report.

UnitedHealth is the managed-care stock to own, trading at a discount to its historical multiple.

Link says UnitedHealth trades at 19 times forward estimates versus a historical range near 23, and at 15 times EBITDA versus a typical 19, which is a big discount. She credits a strong leader who is turning the company around. The key is next week's earnings and the medical loss ratio, guidance and cost framework for the second half and 2027. Utilization is rising and seasonally higher, but she expects the company to contain costs, and calls the stock best in breed on sale.

“I think, in the managed care space is absolutely the one in my mind to own when you can get this stock at 19 times forward estimates when its historical range is at 23... I think the stock is definitely best in breed on sale.”at 44:02
