AbbVie is a turnaround winner: immunology drugs replaced Humira, and he is initiating a position.

AbbVie's Humira lost patent protection but its newer drugs Skyrizi and Rinvoq and other immunology drugs grew about 24% and added roughly $8 billion over the last quarter. Neuroscience rose 20%. Add a 2.5% dividend and double-digit growth, and the stock is a good business. The position starts at 1% and will rise to 5% on pullbacks.

“They had a super drug [Humira] that came off of patent, and they've replaced it with SKYRIZI, RINVOQ, and other immunology drugs that are up like 24%... It's also neuroscience was up 20%.”at 29:59

AbbVie is diversifying revenue and expanding margins, so it's a healthcare name to own.

AbbVie has replaced Humira revenue with immunology, oncology and neuroscience drugs, and the stock is up about 25% this year. Companies in biopharma that diversify revenue, expand margins and grow overall are attractive. He sees an opportunity in healthcare more broadly.

“I love what, obviously, Kev has done here with AbbVie... they have replaced that HUMIRA revenue. Right? Immunology, oncology, and neuroscience... So we like companies on the biopharma space like this that are diversifying revenue, margin expansion, and just growing the business overall.”at 31:37

  • Steve Grasso · Grasso Global Inc.Bullish

AbbVie is best placed on the patent cliff; its replacement drugs already exceed lost revenue.

Grasso views big pharma through the patent cliff. AbbVie is probably in the best position, because its replacement products have already more than offset the revenue it lost, at 121% of the lost amount. He says this makes it a strong position even with the stock already high.

“AbbVie is probably in the best situation with the patent cliff. ... they're up now with the replacements, 121% of the revenue that they lost.”at 29:26

  • Jim Lebenthal · Cerity PartnersBullish

AbbVie is a solid, long-held company with strong momentum that should keep performing.

He has owned AbbVie for many years and calls it a solid company. Even though the stock is at an all-time high, he thinks the momentum is strong enough to justify recommending it, and he expects it to perform for the next several years.

“AbbVie, you know, I debate whether to recommend a stock right at an all time high, but the momentum here is strong. This is a solid company that I've owned for many years, and I expect will perform for the next several years.”at 46:06

AbbVie is diversifying beyond immunology, which he sees as accretive for the long term.

Snipe says immunology is AbbVie's core story, with much talk about Skyrizi and Rinvoq performing well and the company moving away from Humira as it faces biosimilar competition. He argues that expansion outside immunology is accretive for the long term, so he continues to like the stock.

“They continue to diversify outside of that... They are expanding outside of the immunology space, which I think is accretive for the long term. So I continue to like that one.”at 44:55
