AMD faces similar PC headwinds but should fare better than Intel, helped by share gains.

AMD is also exposed to the same PC market weakness that hurt Intel. However, he does not expect AMD to do much worse than Intel, because of its share gains. He is watching AMD's report next week closely.

“AMD is also exposed to the similar PC [headwinds], but we don't think they will do... much worse because of their exposure and share gains”at 7:53

AMD is more defensible than Intel given its enterprise mix and AI shipments like Helios and MI450.

AMD is also PC-dependent, but it has less of a consumer bent and more of an enterprise bent, which makes it more defensible than Intel. It is also getting the AI trade, shipping its Helios product and MI450, which is an offset Intel does not yet have at scale. He expects AMD to be pulled into the PC downdraft to some extent before reporting next week.

“They don't have quite as heavy of a consumer bent, a little more enterprise bent, so they're gonna be a little more defensible. They are getting the AI trade as well.”at 11:20

  • Jordi Visser · Visser LabsBullish

AMD should benefit as AI spreads into edge devices across homes and cars.

Visser says chips have been consolidating for six to seven months after strong gains, and he recommends moving into names like AMD and Qualcomm that benefit from edge devices. He argues AI will be installed in every product, including ovens, phones, and cars, so edge-device chipmakers should benefit as AI becomes part of everyday life.

“you can start to move into some things like Qualcomm and AMD, things that are gonna benefit from edge devices because it's gonna be in your oven or your stove.”at 55:58

AMD is one of two chip stocks he fully endorses after making new relative-strength highs.

AMD has made new relative-strength highs, which he reads as a sign it is behaving differently from the weakening semiconductor group. He will buy relative-strength highs in this environment, and he names AMD and Super Micro as the two stocks that stand out. Micron and Nvidia are mid-pack, and some memory and fab names look weaker.

“[SMCI] would be one and then advanced micro devices is the other. So those two stand out”at 27:53

  • Stacy Rasgon · Bernstein ResearchBullish

AMD is a favored name; it could grow AI revenue if it ramps, and share shifts matter more to it.

Rasgon says he has liked AMD on the CPU side and that it is where he has spent most of his time. He says AMD could do a large amount of AI revenue next year if it ramps its products. Because AMD is small relative to the total market, he says it doesn't need much share to matter meaningfully, though he doubts market-share shifts are moving much.

“AMD is kind of where I've been spending most of my time at least.”at 50:17
